Will there be Free Coffee at Blade 2005?

Having grown up in the north woods of Minnessota, I feel that it is the un-alienable right of every american to have as much free coffee as he/she can drink. Never mind that a restuant might charge you an extra 50¢ for the pie to make up for the free coffee. If you go to the dentist, free coffee in the waiting room. If you go to the stockyards, free coffee all around. If you go out drinking with your buddies, free coffee wether your drinking or not.

Well, not really. Most places you have to pay. But my real point is this: Will pretty much everyone at Blade be trying to make a buck off me? Will the bottled water cost $2 a pint like at the Atlanta Olympics? Can I bring in my own thermos of coffee?

I feel like the kids in the Disney commercial packing for a trip to disneyland. The 10 yr old veteran has all the advice for the 5 yr old rookie :-)

So far, I know:

Wear comfortable shoes
Cash is King
It takes three days
Bring a backpack (will that be allowed? with the fear of bombs and all?)
etc....

Cash is king indeed , Try and hold on to your money till you see everything ,will take a good day for that. maybe bring a small Man purse , And if we hook up at the show Ill make sure you get all the coffe you can drink . I think they sell Starsmucks out side . :)

There's a snack stand, or there was two years ago. As I recall the prices were above average but reasonable. I don't remember there being any free coffee. Backpacks shouldn't pose any problems. Don't forget to bring some string to tie your jaw up too. :p

you beat us in the war now you want us to provide you with free coffee :D YOU CAN BRING YOUR COFFEE. PACK YOUR WALLET . Have fun , not only do you get to see the best in the world in knives but also some great people that you should be buying coffee for. You Provide the coffee-- ill provide the moonshine -------free
Bowie 20 days Damascus free

Free coffee at Bladeshow?

Ha ha ha ha ha ha. In your dreams.

Bring your own water bottle. Water is $2 for eight or ten ounces. Your hotel may provide complimenatry coffee in the lobby, so bring a theromos bottle and fill it up. But that's as close as you'll get to free coffee.

Blade is not cheap, not at all.

A Lexan Nalgene bottle in your backpack works wonders. Water fountains from what I remember were not a good place to quench a thirst unless you had a glass or bottle to fill up.

Though its been a few years, when I went to Blade East I kept an Ice Chest in the trunk of the car with soda pop and a sandwich and such in it. Call me a tightwad but, I'd rather give that $6 bucks for a Sandwich to a knifemaker rather then an overpriced vendor. While a Stanley thermos gets heavy, filler up and drink all you want early in the show, then drop it off at the car.

Throw some peanuts and beef jerky in your backpack and that will tide you over until you get to Ruby Tuesday's after the show. Be sure to start the day on a good breakfast, not a candy bar and soda pop ;)

Finally, take a NOTEPAD so you can draw yourself a map back to the table. Plus, you will want to know why you like that table (was it the little bird and trout knife, the camp knife, the razor, etc.). Floor maps help but, next to the big Confederate Flag or underneat the emergency light is something you can see across the room. Table 329 on row X may not be visible where you are ;)

There are two. They are inconveniently-located, poorly designed (more art than function) and dribble. The restroom sinks are also designed so that you can't drink from them, have photoelectric valves that give you about a three second spurt at a time, and offer only warm water.

This whole facility is (like modern convention centers are) designed to force you to buy from the venders.

Ruby Tuesdays was closed last year. We'll see what's there this year.

Ruby Tuesdays was closed, but another very similar eating establishment was in their place. Jocks and Jills, I believe. Anyway, they had pretty good food for about the same price as Ruby Tuesdays.

Ate at Jocks and Jills last year and enjoyed not only the food and service but talking to Laci Szabo and crew at the next table!

I'm going.
I've heard about Blade repeatedly over the last few years, but never had a chance to go or an eagerness to deal with the crowds. This year, I've the eagerness and the time to go. Does anyone have information, or a link, as to when and where Blade will occur?

Beg, borrow, I must stop short of saying "steal" to get to Blade ( no pun intended,......really) but you'll not regret attending. I remember my first time...I was as nervous as Jennifer Wilbanks in a cab on her way to the Greyhound station!! It's everything you want in the world's largest knife show and more!!!!!

Somebody told me this year's show is going to be 50% bigger! They opened up another room, and added a lot more space. :)

Here's all of the official info on the show.

Basic rules are...

take as much money as you can. Even if you don't have any money you're still gonna have a ball...money just makes it so you can take home more than memories.
Wear comfy shoes.
Be polite to the table holders. "may I?...thank you and please" will go a long way.
Ask before taking pics
introduce yourself to fellow forum members if you spot 'em...some will even have thier own badges.
Have FUN!

I think it's closer to a 30-35% increase if that's less intimidating. :D
