Will there ever be a 3" ZT 562cf?

I hope there is a 3" version in the pipeline in this configuration, M390 with or without the CF would be a great upgrade to us folks who love the 566 and carry it everyday.

It seems quite possible I think, tho M390 is probably not going to happen, Elmax would be much more likely. I'd say the most lily reason for it not happening would be the 0770, a scaled down 0562, might be too similar IMO.

I just bought a 3" Hinderer xm18 because I wanted a tough SMALLER folder. If ZT would offer some smaller folders I would buy one in a heartbeat. I'm getting pretty tired of large heavy knives.

I like sub 2.5 oz folders and 3" or just under blades. ZT makes nothing in that range. If that happened, I might buy a ZT knife.

I couldn't see it happening.

Other than local laws, why would an extra .5" make a difference?

Gee, I don't know. Why don't you drop Rick Hinderer a line and ask him why he makes a 3.0" XM-18!

I sure hope we see it in the future! In the meantime my xm-18 3" does the trick ;)

Yep. Nice knife, the 3.0" XM-18. But unless you can buy it directly from Rick, it's a little hard to justify the price of a 3.0" XM-18 now that a 3.5" civilian version of the XM-18 exists with a street price of around $210.00.

it's way too expensive unless you can buy direct from Rick

Agreed, I would not pay secondary market prices. If this 3.5" version goes over as well as it looks like it will, I could definitely see a 3" version.

Now if only we could get ZT to see a 3" version. Unfortunately, the last KAI Corp. employee who had a presence on this forum didn't hold out much hope of that happening. :( (Keep in mind that the recently released 0770CF was something of a miracle in the world of brutally overbuilt ZT knives! Could lightning really strike twice? )

They made a smaller version of the 0560, so the question is why wouldn't they?

.5 of an inch makes a huge difference to alot of people, me being one of them. That is also one of my main reasons i havnt got into ZT, because they dont make a 3 inch blade and also because they are so dang heavy.

That by definition has kind of been ZT's thing from the beginning. Larger, heavier, tougher, more overbuilt folders. As for weight, I don't consider them heavy. It's turned into an entire genre, much like traditional pocket knives, slim locking gentlemen's folders, pocket sized fixed blades, etc.

I understand that ZT designs their knive to be "heavy duty" im just saying i wish they made a framelock flipper that was a little lighter and smaller in length, like a mini 0561. The whole weight thing is personal preference, im sure alot of people wish they were lighter and im deffinately sure alot of people like the weight as is.

True that. Other than the 0770CF, ZT folders occupy the genre I refer to as "pocket brick folders". ;)

I doubt we will ever see it, but I wish they would consider it. I would pick one up as soon as they came out! All of the current offerings are too big and too heavy.

Yep. I prefer to own my folders rather than be owned by them. To me, the perfect folder is one that doesn't make its presence known to me or anybody else until I actually need to cut something with it. That's why I don't carry folders clipped to my pants. It's also why size and weight matter to me. (Try carrying a ZT 0200 in the bottom of your pants pocket for a few days and you'll see what I'm talking about! ;) )

Yup, this is the one reason why I haven't been that much interested in ZTs. They're just too overbuilt and big for the environment I use em in. The designs are great, I just wish they would release some models where the blade length is 3 inches and below. When I saw the 562 released, and found out that it was a 3.5 inch blade, a lot of my excitement went away... I love the Rick Hinderer design, but just can't justify the prices for the 3 inch Hinderer Xm 18 although I'd love to own one.

A 3 inch 562 CF... Please take my money.
