Will these standoffs fit?

Hey guys. I have a spyderco military with the black aluminum backspacer. This is the second spacer I've had and the thing stripped out on disassembly. No loctite. So I'm stumped. Anyways, I'm going to just buy stainless standoffs. I know the screws are 2-56 so I'll keep the stock ones, and the thickness is 0.165, but will these stick out above the handle? Also, if you know of cheaper, or better looking, please link. These are all I've found. http://www.knifekits.com/vcom/produ...ucts_id=898&osCsid=ad6gb8a8tgm17rvjjknr475de4 . Thanks for your time guys.

Just looked at my LH Military, the centers of the screw heads holding the backspacer in place are roughly 3/16" below the top of the handle. The diameter of the standoffs you're contemplating is .194", so the radius would be half that. Given that 3/16" = 0.1875", I'd say there's no danger of them sticking up above the handle. However, you may have to trim them a bit, since the gap between the sides of mine is only .160" and they're between .165" and 170".

I just put a caliper on my backspacer and it read between .164.5 and .165, so If it's a bit big I'll just sand some off both sides. Hopefully they just drop right in. I wish I could find the ones that are shaped like an hourglass. I like that look. Do you think they'll look too small in there?

Definitely. Just trying to figure out options before I pull the trigger :-) I'd like something I don't really have to modify. But I don't want it to look like a hack job lol. Anyone know of any other retailers that sell threaded ad cut to length standoffs?

Just google "knife making supplies" and there are a bunch of options.
Also found on another site that the standoffs you stated do work with the Millie. Post up your results, I'd like to do a little work on one of mine.

Just ordered them up. Maybe they'll also fix the blade centering issues the military has. One can only hope. When it's all put together I'll take some before and after pictures. I wish they did a steel insert in the aluminum backspacer or something, stripping two is unacceptable. I mainly carry my sebenza 21 now, but my second edc is my military hands down.

I put standoffs in all the Militaries that I keep and use. I got them from knifekits http://www.knifekits.com/vcom/produ...cts_id=2625&osCsid=ad6gb8a8tgm17rvjjknr475de4 and ground them down to the right thickness.

Did the standoffs help you with centering the blade at all? I bought the 0.65 thickness. Hopefully all goes well.

Haven't had any centering problems on my Ti militaries, but I did have a linerlock military refuse to center its blade despite the standard attempts, and the threaded standoffs definitely made it easier to tweak since the aluminum backspacer is garbage. What worked was bending the liners straight, after I thought about how I usually carry my knives (back pocket).

I noticed removing the backspacer with the blade still in the liner sprung out. I figured it was due to the liner locks need for a bend. Are you saying to bend it straight so it sits flat in the scale recess?

yup, make sure the liners sit flat in the cutout of the scales.

Well, the standoffs fit perfect. They look nice too, i would have been happy with the same size, but no rings as well, they would match either way. I got the nice more centered than before, but i think the blade is just warped from heat treat, no matter what i do it's always in the same vicinity with the backspacer or the standoffs. Not rubbing though so i guess i'll have to live with it. Anyways, here's the pics!

looks good ! did you try straightening out the liners?

I did. The non lock side was perfect, the lock side was slightly bent. Very springy, i tried by hand and somewhat bent it back, but not totally straight. Cleaned it all up inside and out and reassembled.
