I'm trying to design my own knife. Here is my preliminary plan. I just wanna know if anything is blatantly wrong with it. I'm pretty happy with a blade but I will probably redesgn a handle. My goal is to make a folder that is balanced and rugged enough to be thrown like a throwing knife. But since I have no experience in knife design I figured I'll just start with a simple folder first and work up to my goal.

I'll make some 3-d pics later. I'll post some dimensioned pics as well.

It just dawned on me, I think I unconciously stole this design from
someone else. Did anyone make a knife like this already?

edited to link the drawing properly.
and it still doesnt work. To view the pic just open a new window and copy the following url to it : http://www.community.webshots.com/storage/1/v2/4/44/54/30344454ufmUJXPEhs_ph.jpg

2sniper,
I like it, you are off to a good start on your design.
I'm not sure I have seen anything exactly like it, but I have seen some of it's lines on other knives.
I think you are going find that "folder" and "throwing knife" are mutally exclusive terms.
Regards,
Greg

Like Ripper said, there are similarities to other knives, but I haven't seen it's twin. Overall I like the design. I think you might need to extend the handle at the butt end a little and make room for a back spacer. But it looks good so far. You've got a lot of information at your fingertips here.

Yup...you need to make more room on the back.....bisides this minor thing it is a great design. My advise is that you incorperate all the detials like pivot positiong and stoppinposition with crosses so you can drilll after drill after the drawing. Also get the shape of backspace etc on the pc and the print scaledrawings when you need to go to work. It is cool to be able to cut out the pattern and glue to the steel/handlematerials etc.
