Ive been researching this forum and Dons on thermocouple usage in propane forges. Id like to use a pid/thermocouple to regulate heat treating only..Ive come across these two items as recommended..I was thinking of blocking off the back of Lisa's two burner forge with a firebrick. Drilling a hole in the appropriate spot(thru the brick) and running the probe thru the correct distance (in the rear 1" off the floor, 1" off the wall is what Ive read in this type of forge. It does heat very evenly)...Only keeping the probe in for heat treating..Heres the controller and thermocouple..What do you think?

I would use a larger 1/4" thermocouple and a ceramic sheath.
The PID will be OK.

You should go ahead and just convert the forge to auto control by adding a solenoid and an SSR. Then you can set the HT temp and the forge will hold at that point.

There is a lot of info and such in the PID sticky.

I'd get the probe from Omega. Get the Omegaclad XL sheath and it will hold up near forever.
