I had some hard fire brick so I milled some 1/4" holes in one and have some A, 17-4 Stainless Steel rods for rests. Will this work? Good Bad or Ugly ? Thank you for your input.

What's the relative coefficients of expansion for firebrick and steel? You might want some more gap so the pins don't crack the brick when they expand.

So I turned them down so they have slop. Other than that will this work good or not really? I left room enough for the foil wrapped blades I think.

Thanks. I have yet to build (really build ) knives. I probably have close to $4K invested and lost interest after gathering all the equipment. And I think my interest is starting again. I think if I ever really get into it I will like it.

Those are not wrapped blades....slabs of 52100 to shield the blades from the heating element and to help even out/retain the oven temps....same with the fire brick in the back of the oven.
Never thought about that. Is there a reason to shield the knife blades? Thanks!
