I just got my first Becker (BK2) and I lOVE it!!!I have had to sleep on the couch cuz my wife wont let me have it in bed and I refuse to put it down (not really). I want to strip it so I bought the best stuff (according to the guy there) that Lowe's sold. I tried it out first on my Gerber Prodigy. I left it on for about 20 mins, checked on it and nothing happened. So I sprayed another coat, left it on for 45mins to an hour and came back and the coating was faded slightly. Is this not gonna work on my BK2. I used a metal bristle brush and a metal scraper and it wouldnt come off. Are the coatings on these two knives that much different. Here is what I used.

try leaving it on more around 2 hours, also you want the thing practically bathing in it :P

edit: [DISCLAIMER] i have never used this particular product so dont just go by what i said :P

Jasco gel stripper works pretty good so I don't see why the spray wouldn't work too. You all ready bought it so you might as well use it. It will probably work.

This is what I use on cars, tried it on my becker and it worked like a champ

The Prodigy has more like a DLC coating on it than an epoxy or powder coating that's on a Becker. The stuff you got should work just fine.

It says Paint and EPOXY remover on it. How could it NOT work on the Becker paint?

Heck, try it. It could be the best stuff ever!

I'd have it next to me in the nightstand. Hopefully it won't have any hurt feelings.

Aircraft remover works on cars?
You know people will usually pay $100 for the privilege of disappearing your car for you... unless you need to keep it a secret.
Wish I had some actual Automobile Remover. The hillbillies who used to live in/around my house buried a car or two in the woods next to the stone walls.
I pulled out an entire crankshaft last weekend.

I've heard lots of recommendations for citristrip for removing the coating from beckers.

They must be different because I left it on for 3 or 4 hours and nothing but a little fade. Gonna leave it on overnight.

Never had a problem with Citristrip. Acetone? Brilliant. Sounds a heck of a lot cheaper.

I've used that same product to strip every BKT knife I have, sans 2. Those still have coating on them. :D

Anyways, I spray it on, and let it set for around 20-30 minutes, and the coating just slides off.

I have found, that if the can is "old", or has been stored for a long time, the chemicals are not as potent as a "new" can, and therefore, you must leave it on a little longer, but other than that, Jasco is what I recommend to everyone. Even willis.

My customization is starting out very basic because I cant afford new scales or a nice leather sheath. So far I have stripped it, given it a decent satin finish (needs touched up a little still) and put blue liners (cut out of a blue dvd case). I have a usgi web belt and I am gonna try to just modify the sheath it came with for now. I still have a little sanding to do but wanted to show you guys what I have done so far. This is the first time I have ever done anything like this, so sorry if its a little sloppy or simple lol. (FYI---left the stripper on my Prodigy for 19 hours--still didnt come off)

Can I get those scratches off without turning it into a mirror finish? (its not that big of a deal if i do have to but its just more maintennance)

fortunately one of the liners had a hairline crack and a big piece busted off---it was the only colored case I had so will have to find another later--back to just the plain black grivory scales
