Ok - I know this is likely a dumb question, but I'm just curious about it. Can you force a patina on titanium?

I'm guessing not.

It's called anodizing.
This is from Wikipedia;
"Anodizing (also spelled anodising, particularly in the UK and Australia) is an electrolytic passivation process used to increase the thickness of the natural oxide layer on the surface of metal parts."

There's a ton of info on the web.

No, not as such. You can change the color of its surface though, either through heat (like a blowtorch) or by electrochemical anodization.

Not really a question for the Traditional forum though.

Aaron's right. This is probably more appropriate to the Maintenance, Tinkering & Embellishment forum. I'll move it there.

My bad - sorry about posting in the wrong area. I had forcing patina on my mind as I just received a GEC Pony Jack that I'm going to treat with a little vinegar.

I'm not sure if it's really a patina, but I do have a titanium wedding band. After about a month of wearing it, it becomes dull and a little bit darker. But it may just be micro scratches and such.

It does get darker as it ages. My friend got a 560 because he liked mine so much. His is much shinier. I have seen this with other Ti knives as well.

It can change color as the others mentioned. Flame annodizing or electro. There is info all over the net about both.
