Will U.S. economy stop the Ka-bar/Becker launch?

I have previously read on B.F. that Ethan Becker has contracted Ka-bar to manufacture his knife line. I am now wondering if the proposed first knife releases in Feb.? 08 will continue as planned, because of a possible looming U.S. recession. Has anyone heard anything? Any Becker updates are appreciated. Thank you.

That's a strange question. Why should a business twitch every time there's speculation about the economy? There are always problems, in any economy. It's also a big election year, so of course people are "speculating" in hopes of boosting their party's standing or their own reputation for foresight.

The question might make sense if someone speaking for Ethan or Ka-Bar said anything. Otherwise, it's like wondering if we should pay our taxes this year -- after all, the sky is falling. :)

I would find it hard to trust any economic prognostications, from any "experts" in an election year. :p

Most have a political agenda which dictates whether they will predict boom or bust. :thumbdn:

I don't feel that this is a strange question at all. Business ventures are often delayed for economic reasons. I didn't expect to be man handled for asking an honest straight forward question. My intention was to elicit a response from those with inside information on the Becker launch, not to convolute the original question with the added burden of politics.

From what I've seen, you haven't even been close to having been manhandled.

:)

If you wanted an insider's view, why not email Ka-Bar?

If you think my answer was "manhandling" you really need to grow a skin. I tried to explain that any "possible looming U.S. recession" at this point is primarily in the minds of those trying to sell the concept.

It's an interesting question, but if they planned for a debut in Feb, '08 & there's delays, it's probably for reasons other than the economy. It's a little close to the target date to be just because of a possible recession.

Pricing, however, might be changed because of a possible recession, though.

Interesting question to ask. Many things would affect the production of this series the economy obviously being one of them. It however may not be the sole or even the largest contributor to the company's abilitiy to meet its deadlines.

You know what causes recessions?

Everyone saying, "There's a recession coming!"

It sounds silly, but Tommy Lee Jones said it well in the movie Men in Black:

"A person is smart. People are irrational, paniky, dangerous animals."

I butchered the quote a little, but I think you get the point.;)

I would think just the opposite. New models are what sell, not just the same old versions. It's why all the new cartridges are introduced- to sell rifles and handguns. New cartridges are not spawned because there is a void to be filled. :)Regards, ss.

There is pent up demand for Beckers, particularly the Necker.

The venture should be fine.

At worst I expect current economic concerns would only delay the launch and/or effect the pricing.
