Will we ever have a another sprint run of the original Manix?

Some time ago -- maybe a year or two -- there was talk of Spyderco releasing a sprint run of the original Manix, probably with a new super steel. When I heard this, I sold my C95GPFG Foliage Green Manix, which was a backup to my user Manix 1. But a new sprint run never appeared, just new runs of the Manix 2, which is not a knife that appeals to me.

Is there still a chance of a Manix 1 sprint run? The Manix is a solid, heavy-duty EDC. It would be nice to see another small run with a new steel, such as M390 or M4.

I think I get it now. The silence of the Spyders speaks louder than words.

The Manix 2XL must have been what the company planned to release with upgraded steel. And in fairness, the general lines of the XL are similar to the Manix, but the XL knife and the blade are lighter and thinner. The Manix is more robust, as fitting for that design. And the caged ball bearing lock on the XL is quite a bit different than the lockback.

The only thing that disappointed me about the Manix was the S30V steel, which came out when knife companies were struggling to get that steel less chippy. Most of my old S30V blades are on the chippy side, including the Manix. It's not a serious problem, but that knife deserved a better steel.

The funny thing is that the Manix was wildly popular on the forum when it came out. And yet it died with a whimper. It's like everyone has forgotten.

Sad.

I think that the silence has a lot more to do with the backlog of various sprint runs from the past few years.

It takes a lot of planning to get things ready for a sprint run to be produced.

The steel has to be ordered in batches and that has to be at least a year in advance.

The other part of it may have to do with having released the Powerlock on the Tatanka too.

It just might be a year or two or more, but I think they will do the Manix sprint eventually.

Look how long some of the models have been in the research and development stage that are just being released.

I would like to see the Military 2, and it has been in development for quite a while now.

Plus, they are still in the process of expanding their factory capacity, which should be finished towards the end of this year.

Did you look at the Knife Center exclusive Manix in CTS-XHP? Does that even count as a sprint? It's a sweet knife!

You're probably right, GCG199, Spyderco has a lot going on. But I still get the impression that the company is done with the original Manix. And it seems like the consumer base is, too. A mint Manix C95 just sold on eBay for $170. Not long ago, that knife would have gone over $200.

People have forgotten that the Manix is a beast. When I show someone my old Manix, their first response is, "Wow! That's a big knife." Then they open it up and the lockback clanks shut like dropping a manhole cover. They go "wow" again. That lockback is 0.16 inches thick. Love that sound.

Hey Blameitongod, I didn't see that Manix. All I see there is the Manix2.

Search CTS-XHP on their site. I checked a couple minutes ago and they still have them in stock. I tried searching with Manix as the keyword and it only showed the Manix2 and XL.

Weird. Try the SKU #SP41PBN. That should take you right to it.

Edit. It is probably not what you are looking for anyway. It's a light weight manix.

It took me to a Spyderco C41PBN Native Lightweight Folding Knife 3-1/16" Carpenter CTS-XHP Blade, Brown FRN Handles, KC Exclusive.

But thanks, anyway. I had fun looking.
