Will we ever see black coated waved Es and Ds?

Up until very recently, I really disliked black coated blades. The fear of scratching them, looking too tactical, and the increased cost kept me away from them. My RAT RC-3 and ZDP/Ti Mini-cyclone changed my mind recently. I find that they can be attractive and quite functional, and no doubt the 'tactical' advantage is there. Though I don't think its ever been explicitly stated, I believe one of the purported uses of the waved series was for tactical/SD use due to the speed of deployment. Many knives that fall into this category often have a black coated blade as an option. Will we ever see our beloved Waved Enduras and Delicas with a black blade?

I doubt it for a couple of reasons:

1) We would probably see it done with the regular Enduras and Delicas before the waved versions. All new variations of the Es & Ds are based off of those first.

2) There have been times where enough forum members beg and plead for things like this that have been in the past, but there needs to be a sufficient number of member who'd actually be interested before it gets tried out. The full flat grind & G-10 features for the Es & Ds have been asked for for the longest time and they only recently came out with them.

But it's always a possibility.

I never realized that the regulars don't have coated blades as an option. Didn't D3s and E3s have this option? Either way, I assume that the consumers of the waved versions is a slightly different market segment from regular E and D users. I don't see why the wave can't get this treatment first.

I know what you mean about these types of threads, just a bunch of people with wishful thinking and Sal comes in either crushing our hopes or teasing us for years telling us they're 'thinking about it.' I'm all for the other thread regarding the Swick...maybe there are others wanting a black coated wave?

They do and have...but may not be out yet in the 4-series...

Here's a link to some combo-edged examples:

There coming out with both serrated and combo edge versions of the wave so maybe we will.

Coated versions of both the E4 and D4 are available. Your dream is just a Dremel-tool away!

Good heavens, how many SKUs of the E4 and D4 are there going to be? As a collector, I can't decide if the recent explosion of variants is a good or a bad thing. It certainly makes it more expensive to get every one! There are 10 variants of the Endura alone in the current Spyderco catalog- including 2 trainers! And that's not counting the different PE, CE & SE versions of each variant!
