600.00:eek: damn, that's about the same price as a kidney. everybody thought i was crazy for spending 120.00 for a bm47. what is it made completely from carbon fiber or platinum? the only way i'd buy one is if the price would come down just a little.

With the current exchange rate between the Philippine Peso and the US Dollar, I definitely couldn't afford one. :(

I am just waiting for the call from my dealer to say that they are in and I am buying it!!!! I can hardly wait!! It is pretty high but that is why I am selling (auctioning) several of my knives. :( Oh well, money WELL spent IMO!!!! I can't wait!!!!!!!! :D :D

I just cant figure out what knives i want to give up, but i do want one bad...i just may figure something out...:D

IMHO, that will be too late.:( Considering that only 100 are going to be made, and the fact that the 49 SPL sold out before even being announced, I'd be on the phone to a dealer getting my name on one long before they come in! I think I'll have one of each, the 49 SPL to admire and the 49-01 to flip! ;):D

I should have been more specific, I am on a dealer's list for one of them, I am just waiting for hime to call me to say that they are in so that I can pay for it and receive it!!!! :D I am already garaunteed 1, I am just awaiting the day that they are shipped.

DAMN! I want one soooooo bad, BUT A $600.00 price tag hurts. Just like 1995 when BM had the custom Bali's they were the same price. I wanted one real bad but the availabe funds wouldn't allow me. I'd like to see them meet us in the middle with the model 42 handles and a custom blade attached. I just pray they are hearing us.

I'll have to think about that one some more. I would trade for one ! I am thinking probably.........no. If it were $400. I think probably YES ! It does'nt cost that much to make a Balisong. Maybe it cost about a sixth of the price to actually make one. Throw in a couple hundred for labor and such, per knife ofcourse....that's a sweet profit !.....RDT "Swing em' if ya got em'"

I don't know much about the high tech world of automated/CNC production, as applied to large scale 'factories', but by the time BM Team puts the programers, Master cutlers, i.e., Les DeAsis and Vance Collver, production people, etc., etc.,into play, I would guarantee that in no way is BM reaping profits in the 500%-600% range. I'm not a mouth-piece for BM, by any means, but I have been around a lot of production related facilities and it's taking a vast amount of resources to fabricate, hand assemble, souce out vendors to supply wooden presentation boxes, etc............. Les is not the type of person that would ever take advantage of anyone, let alone try to make large profits that would later cost him much more in lost revenues because of a misplaced group of buyers. This is a very special project and we should be thrilled that a company as busy as BM would take the time to create yet another monument in the Bali-Song USA legacy that has, in more ways that we can imagine, brought us all here in the first place.

2 years ago, if someone offered me a numbered bm42as for $180, I would probably have laughed at the notion. But, not but a couple of months ago I bought one. So... am I going to spend $600 on this new custom? HA... HA I say!! But ask me again one year from now, I may be laughing with one in my hand. :D

DD- as to your IMHO post --- Right on !!! I'd be amazed if BM broke even on this venture, tooling costs and special labor will eat up $$$s in a flash. These first run knives will be extremely expensive to produce. Add to that the very special machining and fitting of the wood inserts and we're talking major bucks. My info is that the inserts will be fit like William-Henry amber or MOP scales, or better. Hard to beleive, but if it can be done BM will do it. I just want to handle mine and quickly wipe it down with anti-oxidents. :)

No, most like not. It is a great piece, and worth every penny, but I am just not on fire about the blade, and I have to be on fire about a knife to spend $600 on it. Personal taste thing.

The handles are choice though! I wonder if the blade will swap with a Colver Clip Bowie? ;)

It's so hard...

I think that I'll go the more difficult route, and gather up enough other cool balis that I can end up **TRADING** for one.

So, If you're gonna buy one, might as well buy two so you'll have one to trade for other cool balis.:p

I guess we'll all see.

I also think that there will probably be some other blade styles comming out on this same handle configuration. At least, Benchmade should be acting in their own best interest to get the most out of their tooling and machinery, at least to make some profit.:)
