Today I laid hands on a William Henry for the first time ever. That thing was amazing. Beautiful, smooth as silk. A true work of art. It had a button lock. I had never seen that before. It worked nice. I wonder how strong it is (not that I would hard use a knife like that). Does anyone have any experience with button locks? Or opinions on WH knives in general?

Got this Hanwei Chan folder stag scales, button lock in the post today. Can I shut the bloody thing? No! Fear I've an unitentional fixed-blade here or severed digits:eek:

I have a queen push button knife. I will try to get some pics of it up soon. I have never had any problems with the lock. It seems to be a strong lock, But I have never really tested it.

Button locks have been used in automatics for years. They are very strong. Unlike liner locks, even if they get a little play in them, they still provide a good lock. Unlike lockbacks, they are not as suceptible to failure due to lint and dirt. They are more expensive to make and get the alignment perfect.

I'm more interested in those who use their WHs hard enough to fail such a lock. Does anyone spinewhack, throw into cars and batton their WHs? FWIW, I think the button lock looks to be a sturdy lock, more than one would need for a WH.

I have 2 B-09 W/H's, one in Mother of Pearl and one in Desert Ironwood, both button lock, as well as 2 others in G10 and ATS34, love them all. For the size and intended use of the knives, it is an awesome locking system. VERY solid lockup, no blade play whatsoever. Beautiful knives, light, strong, perfect gents knives. The ZDP blades are razor sharp. To me, personally, well worth the $$.

I have a WH Tom Brown Quest. The button lock is very secure; I never have worries on it closing accidentally. I don't "baby" this knife, but I don't throw it into cars either.

I had a few MOP William Henrys and a Nautilus. The Ti Nautilus button lock would every 2nd or 3rd opening pop out further than it should have, and not allow the knife to be closed unless it was released with a tool. However, the fit and finish of the knives are amazing, especially their Damascus stuff. They are not heavy usage knifes, and compared to other locking mechanisms (Axis, Back Lock, Compression Lock, Reeve Integral Lock), the button lock is one of the weaker designs.
