Anybody get either the WH Monarch or Westcliff yet? They sure look great. Some opinions on the durability of the buttonlock mechanism and overall function, please?

Looking at pictures on the web is probably the closest I can get to handling one. I am probably several thousand miles from the nearest WH dealer.

Thanks

I have the Monarch and I think that it's a great gents knife. It is a very light knife that was not intended for heavy duty use but could probably work alright as a skinner if you wnated to use it that way. The Monarch is under six inches overall with a proportionately narrow spearpoint/droppoint blade. In other words, it's a small knife that looks small, it's not a hand filling small knife like a Spyderco Dodo or Salsa. The knife is super light and it can be forgotten in the pocket whether it is clipped or or if it's carried deep pocket style.

I really like the buttonlock. If you are familiar with coil spring style autos, than you will understand how the lock works. In fact, the smallest of the WH buttonlocks, the Spryte, is a California legal auto. I've heard some people say that the buttonlock is easy to disengage, but I have had no problems with the knife at all. Finally, I would like to say that my WH is carbon fiber, a material that I really consider ideal for higher end pocket knives since it looks so good and it's very, very scratch resistant. I suspect that the titantium WHs will be very prone to scratches unless it has a TNT style finish.

Anthony, many thanks for your thoughts.

I am looking at the carbon fiber versions of the Monarch and Westcliff for a nice knife for daily carry. I dont plan to chop down trees with them... got my HI WWII Khukuri for that duty :D
