Hello all,

Thanks to the many who replied to my post looking for gentleman's folder ideas. I am thinking about getting a Klotzli, but I've never seen one in person. However, I do have several William Henry's, among them a carbon fiber Lancet, which seems to compare with the smaller cf Klotzli's in terms of both price and size, and hopefully quality. My question is this: is there anyone out there who has had the occasion to do a side-by-side comparison of Klotzli and Willima Henry knives? If so, your comments would be greatly appreciated, as I'm about to pull the trigger on a KLM1.

thanks,
Phil Reedy

Phil,

I've got a Klotzli KL030 which I've carried for a couple of years now. I just recently bought a William Henry Lancet, although not the carbon fiber (I couldn't resist the latest limited edition w/black palm scales, but I digress). I've handled the carbon fiber Lancet and I must say, that as much as I love my Klotzli, the Lancet is just a little smoother and more elegant. It's the little things like the finishing of the pocket clip, the rounded character of the carbon fiber, and the silky pivot action that make me lust for the William Henry. The Klotzli, while still quite smooth, is a little less elegant and more utilitarian (if you can call a chartruese carbon fibre wharncliffe bladed knife utilitarian!).

Anyway, bottom line is you won't go wrong with either, but if it's gentlemanly elegance you're after, go with the William Henry.

I have a Klotzli kl200cs which is the Michael Walker design, clip point, part serrated, 440c. I don't own any William Henry's but I have handled a lot of them and I can say that they are fair bunch to compare. I think it will come down to personal preferance as both are very good for the money. The Klotzi's are very flat, which is something that I really like in a knife, and the clip on the Klotzli is smaller than most clips (but it still grips fine). The WH are ats-34 so that's another thing to look at. If I were you I would contact Larry Connelly at www.knifeart.com and talk to him he won't steer you wrong. He also sells both Klotzli & William Henry. And he's got some "custom" Klotzli's.

If it makes a difference Peter Klotzli is a very nice guy, I met him at the NY Custom Knife Show last November.

I would agree that WH is a little more smooth and genteel than Klotzli. The Klotzli, especially the wharncliffe ones, are very distinctive and well. If you want elegant, go WH. If you want to get funky, go for one of the Wimpf designed Klotzli wharncliffes.
