Very nice picture indeed. Has class, old school class, can almost smell it.
 
Nice detail. The Brits outfitted him for the return to destroy the bridge thus only British weapons and kit.
 
That photo is from "Bridge on the River Kwai", one of Holden's finest roles.
 
He (William Holden) also examines a similar knife in the movie "Devils Brigade". In a scene in his office at a WW2 training camp he receives a package with two knives, apparently for testing. One is a more traditional military utilility/fighting knife and the other the dagger style. He tests the blade of the first knife by snapping it off while held in his desk drawer.

In several ways in several places over the years, I've heard or read that while JFK was zooming Marilyn Monroe, Jackie was zooming William Holden.
 
Truly an actor from the Golden Years Of Hollywood, when they made films rather than remakes of remakes and remakes of tv series. :(
