Hey everyone, first time posting. Recently I took a trip to my local antique shop to pick up a nice trinket for someone as a gift and I ended up deciding to dip my toes into blades/militaria, coming away with a first world war trench knife and an apparently Sheffield made bowie.

Now, I'm not at all an expert on knives but they were cheap and I liked the way this one looked. I'm just wondering if anybody here could figure out if this is genuine or some kinda fake.

So far all the images of William Rodgers blades seem to have the mark stamped on the ricasso. With mine I can just about make out the 'I cut my way yadayada' on the actual blade but it's very faded and I'm not sure it's stamped. There's also some engraving on the other side of the blade.

I'm just curious as to whether or not people even fake this kind of knife and if they do, do I have a fake on my hands?

First of all, welcome! Pull up a chair and stay for a while.

Unfortunately, I don’t know much about your knife, other than to say that I can see why you bought it. I love the lines of that knife, the clip point is very pleasing!

That's a Sheffield Whittle-Tang Bowie, one of the ''Town Patterns'. They come in a number of sizes, and are still made by more than one firm, coming with a variety of tang-stamps, and for decades, with those rotten leather sheaths. William Rodgers is one of the more common tang-stamps, the name having been owned since the early 1980's by Eggington.
