Hi Guys

Thanks for the e/m's, just now getting to read them. Been without power for 7 days and about 6 hrs, but who's counting?

We got slammed where I'm at, plain and simple. In 57 years I've never seen damage this widespread. Worse from Andrew, but that was a pretty narrow, about 18 miles across for the worst winds vs close to 180 miles across for Wilma. The eye passed just north of us (around Coral Springs Ron if you haven't reached your son yet), so we were on the strong side of the storm and it really tore up the main transmission lines. I've never been without power for more than 30 hrs, so 7 days was an eye opener.

The worst was after the eye passed and the wind switched from SW/S/SE to NE/N/NW/W. My trees were standing till the wind switched. Lost everything but a young avacado tree (lying over pointed west at 7am, then lying over pointed east at 9am), and most of my palm trees, and a bald cypress (native tree). Everything else looked like it had been bulldozed.

Had 4 windows blow out and lost a chunk of roof, but others got nailed worse. For a supposed CAT1/2 storm the damage is amazing. Katrina's eye passed over me as a CAT1 and the only thing was power loss for about 20 hrs or so. No other damage at all. Of course, after that a whole different story.

In another post, I'll tell you how I spent the week, but, this is long enough for now.

BTW, Cleaner145. Thanks! You guys have been busting a$$ and don't think we don't appreciate it! All in all, it's been on the quiet side for what the area's been through.

Take Care

Rob

Glad to at least here you are O.K., take care and keep in touch with us.

Hey Wetdog - That storm was definitely an eye opener. I'm glad you made it thru safe. I guess they are right about that "dirty side of a hurricane" stuff. I lost all the trees in my back yard and two big ones in the front. The one black olive took out my police unit. Now that I have had some time to survey the roof I took a hit on the east side above some windows. There is a small leak. I'm glad that all there was. Most of the houses around me lost most of their shingles and have serious water damage inside. And they tell us next year is going to be worse.

How about a Busse Chain Saw just in case?????:D

Glad to see that you made it through the storm safely and good to see ya back:D

Thanks! Now, send that HD down here and I'll let you know how it performs in the clean up.

Tim can send something on the larger side and I'll do a comparison and write up.

Just a giver, I am. LOL

Hang tight! Glad to hear everyone is digging out of that mess she left behind her. Our prayers go out to you and everyone.

Man, I really ought to jump on Jerry's offer with both feet, but Cleaner had the right idea with the infi chainsaw. Haven't used a knife yet, but plenty of saw time. Other than palm trees, I'd say we lost 80% or more of all the other trees. Some were broken, some just flat pulled out of the ground. I couldn't get out for 2 days because either end of the street was blocked by old growth trees that had fallen across the roadway. Trunks were over 4' thick, so we had to wait till some serious chainsaws arrived and equipment to pick them up.

Good thing there was no emergency, but then again there was no way to call 911. Land lines and cell alike were out. Cell service came back before the land lines, at least in my area and that suprised me, but it was still a couple of days before anything at all worked.

Thank God that for the most part it was a pretty dry storm. Add a bunch of rain to those winds ....... What rain there was, was horizontal and at the end of the storm.

Cleaner145, I'm sorry, but I just gotta laugh. What did your boss say about the crunched cruiser? I don't even want to think about the paperwork you gotta do to explain that. What dept you with? My Dad was with the Miami PD many years ago. He retired in 85. BTW, the whole family lives in Pembroke Pines just to give you a refrence for my tale of woe. My brother lives in Coral Springs which got hit worse than us.

My Dad's place in Key Largo had minimal damage. As soon as we could get out we headed there. AC, hot showers, cold beer, cable, no gas lines and the resturants were open. Just the opposite of the way things usually are after a hurricane.

Should have stayed. Still no power at work and driving here is just crazy. Most intersections either have no working signals or the signals are just plain gone or stacked up neatly in the median. Supposed to treat it as a 4 way stop, but all it takes is one person to blow through the intersection to ruin a lot of peoples day. I drive as little as I can. Nothing to see but more of the same as what's on your own street.

Well the funny thing was it happened at the very beginning of the storm. I looked out the peep hole and all I saw was a tree where a car used to be. I happen to work for the Pembroke Pines P.D. so I know the kind of hit your family must have taken out there. As for the car, I'm now driving one of our "older" models. :o I sent you an email last night to give you my contact info. if there is anything I can do for you.

Stay Strong

Andy
