Hi,

Just brought home a Wilson 5JR. When I transported home I put it flat, so all the oil drained out. Didn’t have much of a choice.

Here it is:

Could you please instruct me on how to fill the oil dash pot with oil please?

I see there is a top that unscrews, with a shaft coming out of it. I assume the shaft is probably the piston. But I’m not sure. Don’t have a table so it sits on the floor and it is a pain in the neck looking in there.

Behind the reservoir, there is something that looks like some sort of an adjustment screw, but I don’t now exactly what it is.

So, do I just open the cap, pull it up and put some oil through the opening? I’m not sure if the cap comes completely off, or just slides up creating a gap.

Here is a pic at what I'm looking at:

Does anybody have a diagram of the internals, or some sort of a servicing manual?

Thanks again,
Constantin

Unscrew this cap and lift it up. Cam the lever so the plunger is down. Fill with oil and cycle the plunger slowly to get the air out. Keep doing this till it’s full. It has a bleed hole so you can’t over fill it. The other knob is to adjust the speed you apply the load. 150kg should be fully applied in 4sec.

Great JT, thank you.

Just to make sure I got it, the shaft should be in the up position, all the way out, otherwise there is not much space to slide the cap up. This gives more space between the cap and container, once the cap is pushed up. Or do I have to go the other way? Seems I have to go the other way, to ensure the plunger is at the bottom of the container(cylinder) so I can pour the oil in. A little confused since I'm not sure on the terms you used, sorry. But I think you're instructing the later, correct?

I have the weights off, so it is easy to cycle the pump.

Do I use a syringe to inject the oil or something similar since there is not enough
space to just pour out of the bottle ?

Thanks again,
Constantin

Here is what I plan to use for the oil. Any objections?

Found the container to the right, so should be good for injecting the oil in.

JTknives JTknives , ignore my question above, it made more sense after fiddling around with the machine.

The return or drop of the weights takes 4 sec. I'll run some test just to make sure it runs the same as per the demo I got
when I bought it.

Thanks again for your help.

The 4sec should be from the time the needle starts to move to when it stops. Not the weights. Thy say the 150kg has to be applied fully to the test sample in 4-5sec. 4sec for 150lb and 5sec for 100kg.

Ok thanks.

What could I use for a test block, other than the specialty made ones, which are quite expensive.

Another question please, does it make a difference once the secondary load is applied, how long
you wait for the indenter to penetrate? Say 30sec as opposed to 2min?

Thanks,
Constantin

I have a pdf of the “operation and maintenance” manual for the JR if you need it. Send me your email.
