Has anyone sent a a WC version of a CRK in for a spa treatment, and if so, how much did the reblast affect the grip appearance?

Did it round everything off noticibly, or come out looking fully acceptable?

I'm considering selling my plain 25 today and getting a WC 25.

Thanks!

Have you sent in a WC model?

I know that sending in a plain handle will result in a new-looking knife, just wondering if the bead blast noticibly rounds off all the edges on the WC slabs.

No, I haven't, but since they're sand blasted from the factory, it's just restoring it to factory condition. The sand blast doesn't round off the corners of the standard models, it isn't going to do anything to the WC models.

I have seen pics before and after on a knife that had many many snail trails and it did round off the lettering...was a little less defined. Any way you look at it the media blasting is removing some material.

That's what I thought I had read.

Maybe I'll just work my micarta 25 into the rotation more before shelling out for a WC 25. It's not like it's going away next week or anything.

While I havent specifically compared the before/after results of the knives I've sent in, I don't recall the lettering being different...blasting isn't so much removing material as it is peening the surface. So yes, it could be less defined, but you're going to be having to look awfully hard for the difference. It isn't a situation where after 10 reblasted, the lines are gone. Blasting changes the surface texture of metal, but it would be a terribly inefficient means of removing metal.

I have blasted several zaans and never had a problem, when done properly all edges should remain crisp.
