I got this in the mail the the other day and wanted to share my thoughts about it with everyone. I should start this off by saying the currently there are still some available so you should pick one up, you will not be disappointed. I prefer smaller knives, this is primarily because I like a knife that is easy to carry and that disappears in your pocket. The VECP ultimately became my favorite knife and I wanted to carry it more and more but it was not ideal for me to edc because of it's size/weight (my personal preference of course). When I saw these and read about their thinner profile and lighter weight in the same size package as the VECP plus a flipper I got excited. Unfortunately I am currently on a "one in, one out" policy so I sold my much loved VECP to get my hands on one of these. I have to tell you I am not disappointed.
Fit and Finish / Build Quality:
Out of the box this thing is amazing. I removed the lanyard simply because I am not a lanyard guy and started flipping until my fingers hurt. After a little bit I adjusted the pivot a little and added some locktite - the action is super smooth and flipping is more natural to me than other flippers that I have handled. The lockup is extremely solid - no slippage or rock, and feels incredibly sturdy being as thin as it is. Overall I think that the fit and finish is better than any other knife that I have had in my limited time collecting. I have read about some people have complained about the flipping action but I have noticed that once you get a feel for the knife any "difficulty" in flipping is resolved. I think it boils down to an apple like issue of "you are holding it wrong" LOL. I took the knife apart to check it out and everything seems very well thought out and executed. There are a minimal number of parts and the design seems exceptionally refined.
EDC:
At the time I opened the Eagle up I was wearing my pajama pants and slipped it into my pocket and could barely notice it was there. The eagle just disappears in your pocket. In jeans it carries much smaller than you would think - i haven't tried it in a pair of khakis yet but i think that it will be doable. I cannot get away from the opinion that this is like the VECP's leaner, faster brother. It is like if a VECP, a military and a hinderer had an offspring - and i mean that in a good way. This is most likely going to become my edc for quite some time.
Value:
This is a relatively expensive knife, but you get what you pay for. I think that if you can find other great knives in this price range but this is definitely a special one. I do not regret the purchase and I feel better knowing that it is going to support a master craftsman.
Overall:
I have bought and sold a number of knives over the past two years but i think that this one is going to stick with me for a while. At this point I think that it is the right combination of features for me and I cannot think of anything that I would do to improve it. I still want an ESR but I think that I will just save my pennies for one and hope that I have the good fortune of being at the right place at the right time.
