I would love to pick up this Wilton 3410 band saw, looks to be in great shape. Here are the specs: Wilton 7"x 12" horizontal vertical bandsaw model 3410, cutting capacity 7in round bar stock or tubing, 12" wide flat stock, blade speed 80, 130, 180, 265 SFM belt select, blade 3/4 x .032 x 93in, Vertical saw operation 9 1/2in x 10in. Also includes two new blades, Motor 120v.

Asking price $750.00 Space is beginning to become a problem but I sure would like to have this. What do you guys think?

Grainger's has them new for $1620, so if it is in good shape( tracks ok, bearings ok, cooling system works, etc.) it sounds like a decent price.
For knife making, it is larger than you will probably need unless you decide to build your own press, in which case you will like the larger saw.
Check the price of new bi-metal 24TPI (good for cutting 1/8" thich and thicker stock), You may not want to invest this kind of money everytime you need a blade.
Your call.....

We have one (or one very similar) in our toolroom at work. It's a good saw. Ours has cut probably enough bar stock in the last 7 years that a knifemaker would cut in a lifetime. We've even used it for production here and there when the big saws have been down for maintenance.

If you only plan to use it for knife making, I'd say it's probably a bit of overkill. While that's a great price for a Wilton (or any horizontal saw of that size and quality), I'd probably look for something like a 16" vertical bandsaw for metal, and maybe get a chop saw for trimming stock to length. If you do a lot of fab work and machining and such, then go for it. I bought a similar, but slightly smaller Wellsaw 58B a while back (a steal at $250), and use the crap out of it, but I probably only use it about 10% for knifemaking. I'd love to have a slightly bigger saw like that Wilton though, and the coolant is a great option to have for sure.

I went through two of the HF sized bandsaws and never got them to work properly

If you have a chance to get that I would.

If space is an issue, I'd look at a quality portaband with a SWAG table. Only limitation is a 6" depth of cut. But if knifemaking is its primary job, how big a limitation is that.

We have the grizzly version of that exact saw for about three years. We have to cut some big stuff so it's been a god send for us. Good saw.

Yes that is my current setup and it works very well. If space wasn't a limiting factor I would buy it I guess i need to check on renting a small shop. I sure envy you guys that have a bunch of land and build these nice work shops.

It's on wheels. It's 110ac. Roll it out when you want to use it and put it in the corner when you don't. I would make room for one if only for making damascus and other fabrication projects but if you're not doing that maybe it doesn't make as much sense.
