Wilton Square Wheel Problem

My approx 9 year old Wilton Square Wheel grinder no longer "turns off". I am assuming that the switch on the motor has gone out and needs to be replaced. (I took off the cover and could not see any obvious problem, but what else could it be?) My machine has the 1hp, non-variable speed motor.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any other suggestions on what to check before I track down the part and replace it?

Thanks,

I think this is one problem that everyone has had with them.. I have had the switch in the "ON" for about five years. Atr first I could bump the top of the casing and it would go off , now it it permanently on. I just unplug it. I know you can get the switch for $20 SOMEbut never have. Just the way it is. Mike

I have an Olympic SWG, that I bought in 1978. I am on my third switch. They do wear out. Most good hardware stores will have one.

Mine went out in the first week...about 27 years ago. Made in Mexico (no lie). It's a simple toogle switch and as I recall easily replaced.

I've had to replace the switch three times on my 25 year old Wilton. A few bucks at the local hardware store here.

Like Don, I've had mine a while and have had to replace the switch
several times. The problem seems to be that the switch faces upward,
and grinding dust gets in.

Yep! My Baldor buffer is doing the same thing. I've repalced the swith several time. U'm just too lazt to go to the electrical supply and pick up another one. Mike

my willton must be 8-9 years old now , and the switch went a few years ago I just put a regular light switch in a switch box
put it were it's easy to get at and it's been OK since , about $2.00
