Trying to upgrade from my Craftsman to a 2x72. Looking at an older Wilton Square Wheel. I have been reading many of the older posts and understand one of the primary limitations of the 4103 model is the fast speed. Does anyone know if the Wilton uses a 56C frame motor? I have a 2hp 3phase 3400 RPM 56c Baldor. I thought if I could get the grinder for $500 and buy a Kbac 27d for $500 I could be into a decent variable speed 2x72 for around $1000. Thoughts?

Any better options out there for $1000?

Thanks for the input.

I can't answer your question about the frame size, but my first grinder back in 1980 was a Wilton Square Wheel which I used for maybe at least ten years before I got a variable speed motor. It runs fast, but is way way better than the Craftsman. For $500.00 I would get it. Even though it runs fast, you can make very good knives with it.

I just put vs on my old Olympic square wheel (pre wilton). I also have a Wilton square wheel and
they are both 56C mounts.
Ken.

I bought mine second hand 7 years ago and its still running strong. I'd be hard pressed to turn it down for $500.00. I think that's a fine deal if its in good shape.
