Kind of a random story that happened just a bit ago. Was leaving my local Walmart and the greeter there is this man with no legs in an hoover-round type thing, I guess his leverage let him saw the clip on my Spyderco Manix 2 sprint run(carpenter steel blade), as I'm leaving I hear "Nice Spyderco you got there." Caught me by surprise that he knew what it was, so we ended up having a ten minute conversation about knives. First time ever talking knives to a stranger, and man was it fun.

Sorry for the random story but thought it was interesting. :P

Sounds like a good day! I love to run into people who have some knowledge and affection for knives and guns - makes me feel like perhaps the general population isn't as fearful or dumbed down as it often seems :)

I thought walmart was an automatic fail?

I have run into a few people that are curious about my knives but I don't think any of them actually knew anything about them. I do know one guy who collects randalls and is fairly young, which I found surprising because he didn't really seem like the type.

I ran into a guy at a doughnut shop who I saw was carrying an Emerson Mini Commander. We discussed knives a little bit, but he seemed new to the hobby. I recommended he get a Sharpmaker rather than send the knife back to the manufacturer, and he seemed interested.

Interesting story, here's one for you. I had a kid at the Wally knife counter years ago open his finger up. I asked him to let me see a Kershaw or something. He took it out, opened it, dropped it, zip....opened his finger up but good. He races off dripping blood and I chase after him. Get him to sit down and I ask him how to get help. I ended up using the floor phone that you hear all over the store. I gave some code for urgent help I guess, because senior staff came hustling in. They thanked me for calling them and getting the guy some hand towels for the bleeding. And that was that. Should have given me the knife, now that I think about it.
:D

I work with a guy that used to collect Severtech autos. One day he was in an area that I was running cable and he saw I had a Gayle Bradley on a work table. He came over and asked to see the knife, and I said sure. I had no idea he mwas a knife nut atnthis point, he then reached into his pocket and pulled out a Spyderco Police SE in ATS-55. He reached into another pocket and pulled out a huge Severtech that looked like it was tumbed in a cement mixer for a few weeks. The knife was still crisp, sharp as hell, and locked up solid. His buddy, another contractor pulled out a Buck110 in BG-42 with stag handles and an Emerson Karambit. I was in good knife company that day.
