Hey guys, Top of Texas are really good people. I won their giveaway last month(Kershaw) and they actually called on the phone to let me know and check address. I have never ordered from them yet but you can bet they've got a customer for life.

Thanks for all the compliments guys. I really appreciate it. I hope someone enjoys using that little guy.

Be sure and check out the other stuff at Top of Texas too. Chris and Marti are really some great folks and will bend over backwards to find what you want.

JIM, thanks for the nice words guy. How's that little neck knife holding up?

Take care all. Hope to see you at the PKA show in Denver,

Mornin' Chris

I imagine I got started making knives like a lot of other makers. I've been a certified knife nut for as long as I can remember. Especially since I got out of the Marine Corps in 1969. I found then that I wanted knives that I couldn't find anywhere (and couldn't have afforded if I had found them).

In 1989 I met a knifemaker at a gun show who convinced me I could make my own knives the way I wanted them. He got me in front of his forge and started me pounding out the iron.

In 1991 I finally made a knife I thought was good enough to sell, and sold my first knife to my Boss at the garage.

It has been talked about on BFC before but I have to put in here again a quote from Wayne Goddard. Knifemaking is an incurable disease. Once you make a knife and get "exposed", you are hooked for life.

My goal now is to make dependable using knives for the rest of my life and try to sell them at affordable prices so the average guy can have a good custom knife.

Take Care all,

Gary Bradburn www.toptexknives.com/bradburn.htm

Well, I don't yet own a Bradburn knife, but I am in the process of getting a couple.

Gary was highly recommended to me by a friend whose judgement and taste I have come to respect. And if that wasn't enough, his knives and respective prices are incredibly reasonable.

I have had the pleasure of corresponding with Gary over the past few days as we run down some ideas for a couple of knives. I have found him to be very friendly and receptive at all times. Hell, he is as excited about the knives as we are. I honestly get the feeling that with him it really ISN'T about the money, but about the love of knives.

What more could you ask for?

More to follow upon receiving the knives.

Gary, I noticed that you like to use various different steels in your knifemaking. What would your favorite steels be and for what reasons? Hope I'm not asking too many questions, Gary. I just love to pick a knifemaker's brain.

Yeah, I'd also like to know what Gary's fav. steel is, to use, and to work with.

Especially 420V core ss damascus.

I've been away from the computer too long. Wife says we definately need two computers now.

George, Thanks for the nice words. Means a lot coming from you.

My favorite steels to use are, as Blues guessed, M2 high speed steel and also D2. My choices here are based soely on my ability to make them perform well. Especially the M2. D2 performs almost as well as far as edge retention is concerned and is almost stainless to. In some cases that quality overides edge retention and toughness. I also like A2 but won't be happy with it completely until I can get the heat treat dialed as good as RJ Martin. He really gets the most out of that steel and has given me a few pointers that I'm working on now.

Take care, and get registered for that free knife.

Hey Jackyl,

How ya doin' buddy? I have never used the 420V core damascus, but it sound like it should make a terrific, if somewhat high dollar knife.

You get CPM420V for a cutting edge, which we have all heard about. And Stainless damascus on the outside to make it really pretty and provide tough support for the 420V. Should be hard to beat for a higher end knife.

George,
The drawing will be held on April 30 about 5:00 Central Time. We'll probably quit taking entries about 3:30 that afternoon.
