Win XP Problem

Dear All,

I have a problem with Windows XP. (I know, I know, all jokes aside...) The taskbar at the bottom of the screen is not dispalying my active applications. I need to <CTRL><ALT> <Delete> to bring up the Task Manager so I can switch to another application. This is very annoying, and I can't find out how to fix it. Any suggestions?

Cheers, Acolyte.

Have you tried rebooting? Killing explorer.exe in task manager and re-launching it? Spyware scans? Usually it's something common and easy like that, so give the basics a try and if it persists then we have an interesting problem. :P

Just to clarify, do you have a visible taskbar that's blank, with no visible active applications? Or do you have no visible taskbar?

If there's no taskbar visible at all that's easy; we can help you. If there's a taskbar with no applications ... well, try Vivi's suggestions first.

So you run an app and no appearance of it shows in the taskbar meaning the taskbar is visible but empty from what I gather. When I've seen things like this it's always easier to reinstall the OS rather than spend countless hours battling registry hacks or searching for answers. If it's a corruption issue a fix may only be temporary anyway.
Has the system been buggy anywhere else or in other ways?

A reboot fixed the problem. Feeling rather silly now...

Thanks for all the advice guys, cheers, Acolyte.

I agree with you thats what I usually do after I try a restart. I can reinstall all programs in about 2 hrs.

LMAO! Figured you tried that.

My work laptop has alot of apps and files that take time to transfer so I create images with Ghost. Ghostcast on my server and takes about an hour and a half, with a half hour tweaking settings after that. Data transfer alone for 15gb over 100mbps throughput still takes a couple hours.
