I'm slowly getting my knife collection photographed, and today was Stockman patterns.

Thought I would show my early 80's 301 with the SFO "Winchester" shield.

As I have it down, the story is that 500 of these and 500 311 Trappers with the Winchester shield were SFO's by a Winchester sales Rep. as gifts for longtime Winchester employees in 1982 or 83 (the contract was not completely filled, so it is unknown how many of each actually exists). This one came to me in a trade with a 311 also, from my older brothers father-in-law who retired from Winchester/Olin U.S.A. in the 90's. This one is a Camillus contract also not an in-house Buck.

Thanks, I'm trying to learn how to take better pictures, but with a cheap camera it's a battle especially for anything really shiny!

...Either that knife's in great shape or your picture taking makes it look that way TLC...Really nice looking knife...

Good Photo. If anyone wants a photo of the 311 I can run one up the flag pole but it is just a 311 with a Winchester shield.

TLC You were talking recycle, if you are re-attached I will watch for a 311 ?

The knife is true mint, never used, sharpened or carried. The only thing missing is the little brown paper envelope it came in.

These didn't come in a Buck box, just those little brown paper deals. I keep it in a Buck 301 box to protect it though.

I sometimes wish I hadn't sold the 311 I had with this one, but I'm not as attached to Trappers as I am Stockman patterns, so I keep debating whether to replace it or not?????

TLC,
Just curious....did you take the photos with a cheap digital camera or a cheap film camera and have it digitized? I've started taking photos with an old 35mm SLR and have the film scanned onto a cd. I find I get great photos and a negative for archiving. In any event, great photo. Keep up the good work.

Nikon point and shoot digital. Was about $120.00 when I bought it 2 years ago, so it's not a real high end one.

TLC,

Try using a "white light tent". Sort of an umbrella affair made out of white cloth. Cuts the glare. I made one with small dia. pvc and an old bed sheet. Leave one side open to work the camera. There is some discussion on them in the photo. forum area.

I was sort of, I was using an improvised sun shield made from a piece of white plastic, blocking direct sunlight. The overhead umbrella would work better though, I will try that next time.

Let me be precise, mine looks more like a pyramid than an umbrella. I've not taken any oh boy photos but they are ok, using sunlight and artifical. Use two of those werid purple tinted (better color temp.) 75 or 100 watt bulbs on each side and camera flash (the lamps get hot). Maybe someone else knows some cheap tricks to improve our technique.

PS Thanks for the info on the Winchester envelopes/ Buck boxes.
