Winchester Cartridge Series Questions

I did a search and found a couple of old threads about these knives. I still have a few questions though.

1. Consensus seemed to be that the Winchester Cartridge knives were (are?) made by Queen, but I saw Camillus a couple of places. Is Queen the sole source of these knives? Or were some made elsewhere?

2. Is anyone (Queen?) still making the Cartridge Series? I saw one that was purportedly from 2010 on the fleaBay.

3. Are these knives carbon steel or stainless? Or does it depend on the particular model?

4. Finally, are the latter two digits a year mark in this photo?

Can't help other than to say I have a Queen made Winchester Moose in brown bone - one of four or five of the best knives I have, I think

I'm pretty sure it's made by Queen as well. I know all the
"Black Box" series were made by Queen, And same stamp and sold
by Blue Grass Cutlery. Looks nice... Enjoy!

As far as I know (1979 - 2007), Camillus never made any Winchester knives.

This may be the source of confusion: Camillus did make cartridge knives but they just had the cartridge headstamp for different calibers as an emblem on the handle and I've seen some that had the cartridge dimensions etched on the blade. These didn't say Winchester, though.

Some really good replies here. Thanks to all.

Guyon,

Is that your knife or one you were interested in?

morrowj, it's one I picked up.
The seller said it has high carbon stainless, but everything I've read says carbon steel.
Here are a few pics. One thing I found interesting was the "Yankee Muskrat" written in the box.
Would you call this a Moose pattern or a Yankee Muskrat? The knife is just a smidgen over 4" closed.

It would be a moose. Traditionally, the muskrat is a knife with 2 identical blades (usually turkish clips).

That's what I thought. Didn't know if there's a difference between a Muskrat and a Yankee Muskrat.

The 29104 is listed as a Moose pattern on the Bluegrass website. As far as I know these knives were manufactured by Queen and distributed by Bluegrass Cutlery. My efforts to contact both Queen and Bluegrass for any additional information on this series were unsuccessful. Pretty disappointing that these companies are so unwilling to answer some basic questions for their customers.

I have 13 knives from this series and Bluegrass lists a total of 21. I think that the Cartridge Series represents some of Queen's best work. Fit, finish and features exceed the quality of their Schatt and Morgan line and the bone and jigging is beautiful.

Good luck in your efforts to get more information on this series and if you do I hope you'll share it with the rest of us.

Looks to me that the "Yankie Muskrat" was written on the box as an after-thought by a previous owner. Surely not inscribed by the factory.

Queen Cutlery Co. is owned by Ontario Knife Co. Diane Stanbro is a good point of contact at Ontario Knife Co.. You might call her/e-mail her to see if she can give Queen Cutlery Co. a nudge to provide you with some information you are looking for. She has helped me before with Queen Cutlery issues.

Hey!! It's worth a shot.

Well, I thought I'd give you all an update. My e-mail to Diane at Ontario knife has gone unanswered. Pretty disappointing. I think e-mail is sometimes too easy to ignore. This makes a perfect three, Bluegrass, Queen and Ontario. I'm thinking that a phone call might be more effective. Any suggestions?
