winchester knives

If you mean the nicely crafted slipjoints that Bluegrass Cutlery has built under the Winchester name, they're very nice. I have a Wharncliff whittler and a Stockman whittler (kind of a hybrid). Nice bone scales and good walk and talk.

If you mean the cheap (Chinese?) junk you see hanging in the sporting goods section of Wal-Mart, sadly sporting the name Winchester... blech.:barf:

bluegrass cutlery (in ohio) makes them under license. The first they made, 10-14 years ago? were really good quality, the ones made a few years ago, were so, so, the ones made now are a little back up to par. There are some knives made now with the winchester logo which resemble something from china, taiwan, ect. However with these "questionable" knives, there are still the nicer bluegrass ones.
If you see a one handed folder with the winchester logo and only cost $10-25 dollars, buyer beware!!!

There are actually several generations of these, made on contract for Bluegrass under the Winchester name. The first ones were the nicest - bone, stag, celluloid, pearl, all made by Queen Cutlery. These were made circa 1987 -1997. All with mirror polished carbon blades.

Then Queen made a less expensive "Workman" series of traditional slipjoints, delrin imitation black bone handles, brush finish stainless blades.

Utica has made some also, originally in the "tactical" styles, multitools, and some brass handled slipjoints. Now Utica is producing some traditional slipjoints, delrin handles, quality not quite up to Queen, but less $.

As was mentioned, now some are made in China - I have seen these at Mall Wart.
