Hi,

I am looking for a good quality carbon blade whittler that I can EDC and use. I am not interested in any of the SS i.e 420 steel that is mostly offered. I am considering between a MooreMaker whittler in the smooth yellow bone or a Winchester (W153071WF) from bluegrass cutlery. I am told that the winchester is an old / new stock that is probably over 10 years old (probably made by Queen). I can have this one (only one in stock) for $107 plus s/h.

The mooremaker can be had for $90 s/h. Which would you choose and why?

Thanks,

James

I believe they are both made by Queen, as Queen makes the bone and stag knives for the Moores. With the price difference and the fact that you would have MooreMaker to work with on any warranty issues, I'd be inclined to go with MooreMaker. JMO.

i have a ' 93 Winchester non stainless Texas Thoothpick (45-70 shield). nice knife but i haven't used it. i also have 2 MooreMakers : a 5 blade sowbelly in yellow bone which i use regularly and like v. much; and a beautiful large linerlock 2 blade trapper in stag (superb stag imo) which i plan to use on my first deer this fall. i have many knives and like the MooreMakers very much. plus, if you phone, Dave Moore picks up the phone and is so friendly and helpful it's like talking to an old friend in the kitchen over coffee . roland

I own several Winchester and Moore Maker Whittlers. IMHO the Winchesters or finished better than Moore Makers. Try Ebay and you should be able to find a much better deal on a Winchester Whittler. Cumberland Knife works should be much cheaper than $90.00 for a Moore Maker Whittler http://www.cumberlandknifeworks.com/index.php .
One last thing the Model Number on the Winchester Whittler you have listed is for Waterfall Celluloid. I would get bone over celluloid if possible.
