Recently I picked up a Winchester Working Barlow from SMKW. Fit and finish are surprisingly nice.

Faux black jig scales, brass liners, NS bolsters, exceptional snap in the springs. Nice blade shape.

My questions are:

Who is making them?

What steel is this?

Anybody help? Perhaps the gent from SMKW can help but I am not sure of his email address.

Thanks

If the plastic type is made by the same company who made the bone and stag handles (87-present), then you are looking at Queen Cutlery, distributed by Blue Grass Cutlery.

I would say that they are just by the fact that if you look inside the knife handle you can see where the shield is pinned on. Not many other companies do this anymore. That alone is one reason I wont buy for example a Case knife...I dont like my shields falling out.

Not sure of the steel type.

Kodiak PA,

kdarmy is exactly right on who makes Winchester knives. Blue Grass is the distributor for all of the Winchester knives.

I talked to our catalog department and they called Blue Grass about the steel type. The steel in that Barlow is 440. I hope that helps.

Keith and Jason,
Thanks for the info. I knew it had to be somebody who new what they were doing. I certainly knew it wasn't Winchester.

Queen is an excellent pocket knife company and these knives, not only are a bargain but very well made and the whole series is under $35 (each)...some in the high twenties.

I just ordered the whole set.

Thanks again guys.

Greg
