I have been looking at the Winchesters on the following site:

http://www.schattandmorgan.com/

The owner of the site says the blades are "carbon" steel. Upon further questioning as to what type of carbon steel, I received the same response - carbon.

Do any of you know the blade steel of these knives? While I'm at it, are these good products? I own Case, GEC, Canal Street, but no Winchesters. Thanks.

abcdef,or anyone, has anyone ever ordered a knife from Clarence Risner ? How'd that go ?
That link,was too overwhealming...

Yes, a couple of times. He seems like a good guy. Some of his prices are hard to beat. In one case though, I purchased one knife only to get an email soon after that it was unavailable. He offered either a full refund or choice of something else and I chose the refund. He refunded the money right away. So, I would suggest a quick email to him before you purchase a particular knife just in case.

Thank You

Clarence is a great guy to deal with. I've bought a lot of knives from him over the years and his prices have always been tough to beat. My dealings were in person at shows, though, so I can't say for sure how he manages his online dealings, but I would suspect his practices are similar. BTW, Clarence used to be the NKCA president too.

Thanks guys, for the info I realized I had not included any instructions,on my order,so I called him.I told him there was a link posted here & he says a big Thanks!

You won't go wrong dealing with Clarence. He is from the Old School and is a stand up guy. I have dealt with him online and at the shows as well. A good fella that knows his stuff !!

I'll second that. All my dealings with Clarence have been nothing but pleasant.

I too, have dealt with Clarence and had no problems whatsoever. Unfortunately, after two weeks in my Vegas heat the scales cracked.... grrrrrrr!!!

I hate to post a negative, but I ordered a Queen knife from Risner off of his site, using his checkout procedure, and paid immediately with PayPal. A week then antoerh weekwent by and no knife. I sent not one but two emails over the next week, no response. Finally opened a dispute with PayPal and eventually got a refund check in the mail, no explanation or apology. Then I did buy the knife elsewhere.

Truthfully, I wasn't aware that Queen had made knives with the Winchester name on it. I know the brand license was held by Bluegrass Cutlery for many years until it went to Gerber a few years ago. I can't tell you what steel either Queen or Bluegrass used. Traditional knife manufacturers don't discuss the steels they use very often.
