I have a discontinued Winchester defender shotgun model 1300. I love it for my home defense gun but now I need a hunting shotgun. Anyone know where I can find a longer winchester hunting barrel for it, a generic barrel that will fit it, or will I end up spending so much that I am better off just getting a whole new shotgun. Thx.

Sorry if your in love with Winchester when I say this but if I were you I'd go pick up a rem 870 wingmaster if your your looking for a good shotgun for hunting.

Lol. Yeah I love the Winchester but I am not apposed to buying another shotgun. For me it is more of a financial thing. If I can save a significant amount of money by just getting a barrel well.. It's not like I will ever be using both at the same time. But if I won't be saving money or enough to make it worth it, then your rem will prob be the way to go.

Ever considered buying a used winchester that's been ridden hard and put away wet? Just look for one on the cheap that has a good barrel and toss the rest of the gun. Just a thought.

That's an interesting thought. Though I would have to find one that has a barrel in ok shape. May be hard to do if the rest of the shotgun has been abused. But def worth keeping an eye out for.

Ebay is your friend 1300 barrel also gun broker I can tell you I have a several (4) and have shot the crap out of them!! GREAT guns (older all wood) 28", 22"", and defender's !! Killed every hting except a Human to this point!! Hope I never have too BUT I will if necessary and my Mom 67 has a defender I placed in her Bed room 8 shots 7.5 followed by 4 and then 00 buck !! Whinny's are GREAT!!

If you want THE shotgun to hunt with (IMO), buy a Winchester Model 12 with a Polychoke on it. The choke decreases the gun's value, but it makes it just about the most useful scattergun out there. I have one from 1920 that has a barrel cut from 30" to 26". She points perfectly and will shoot everything from skeet loads to the really hot slugs and buck. Keep in mind that most in 12ga. are 2 3/4", but whatever's on the bad end is just as dead as with a 3". They can be found anywhere from $350 to $450 usually.

Thanks guys. I am going to keep my eye on the auction site and see if I can pick one up for 100 to 200 bux. If it starts to climb beyond 200, then I am going to just spend another 100 or so and pick up a different shotgun. Thanks for the input.

You can get a brand new Maverick (Mossberg) or H&R pump for under $200 at most big box stores. They don't have the style and class of the old Win's and Wingmasters but are every bit as functional.

The 1200, 1300, and 1400 barrels are all the same as far as fitting in the receiver. The problem will be If your shotgun has the extended tube. A standard barrels locking lug is in a different location. You may be able to come up with a sleeve to take up the space in between.
FYI a non1400 barrel will fire in a 1400, but with no gas port it becomes a manual cocker.
