Just pickednup these beauties and they need a little love. Cleaning and sharpening. Does anyone know the angle that a Winchester knife made in 1988, USA made by Queens, is at?

LOL. Yeah, that is what I was kind of thinking too. I just didn't want to go at it until I at least asked the question. Thanks!

I take my pocket knives to 10DPS/20 Inclusive. That's what I was taught a knife should be sharpened to when I was 5.
Raise the spine just enough so the flats clear the stone and push - never pull - the edge on the stone. Pulling causes a wired edge. Dry strop when finished with the stone.
After setting the edge stropping will usually restore a working edge 9 out of 10 times, (according to the 4 generations that taught me how to sharpen) which extends the life of the knife.

Apologies brother, I am still new to sharpening. Can you explain or PM an explanation of 10DPS/20. I would really like to learn. My sharpening skills are about a Worksharp Precision. LOL.

10DPS means 10 degrees per side, so the actual bevel is sharpened at 10 degrees, which in turn 20 inclusive means that the sum of the 2 bevels is 20 degrees, 10 + 10. No need for apologies, ask away, we're all here to help, and asking questions is part of the learning process. 😍

In answer to your original question, to find the bevel angle on any knife, the best and easiest way is the sharpie trick. Run a sharpie along the bevel to colour the bevel, then lightly sharpen and check where the sharpie is being removed or not removed and adjust your angle accordingly. When you are removing all the sharpie, and make sure it is being removed from the actual apex of the bevel, that is your angle. I keep a book of all the angles of my knifes for quick reference. Hope this helps, you can look it up on youtube, there are stacks of videos on using the sharpie.

This 100% helps! The sharpie is a process but it is definitely better than trying to put a new angle on a blade (I have tried that and it is a pain). Thanks again!
