windlass laconia

you got it? getting it? I would love to hear about it! Looks fun...

I also like the looks, but my question is - how difficult would it be to remove the plastic handle and replace with something else?

Yes indeed. I'd like to take it apart and make it into a Celtic style short sword. Wouldn't be hard to do.

If nothing else, you could probably heat it up over a fire until the plastic is more pliable and then just pry it or even cut it off.

What kind of steel is used in those swords ? I saw some things there that I like but no steel is mentioned .

In the ratings and comments section one of the people who purchased the sword says that they replaced the rubber handle with micarta so it must be doable. Looks like a fun beater at a good price. The only mention of the steel is "high carbon."

That's my thinking as well. The sword is based on a classic Celtic leaf-shape design. It would look great next to my Kris Cutlery Celtic Sword.

I have a 2 windlass swords and they were advertised as 1095 when I got them.

edited:That was 2-3 years ago. They may have changed.

Kult of Athena has them all at 1095 and at $54.95... The Sickle and Kopis are cool, would look wicked with the black and uv green reactive micarta that I make.
