Hey guys, i was wondering what the general opinion is of windlass steel crafts. They have some really nice looking bowies in high carbon steel. They say that they are fully functional reproductions of historical knives and weapons. Anyone actually use them? I own their confederate guard bowie but only as a display piece. Any input would be appreciated.

I have a few, though I haven't actually used them. I HAVE used a couple of the short swords they sell under their Cobra Steel line(the kindjal and the Laconia), and those worked perfectly fine as machetes anyway...

Its made in India of Steel? Mostly likely 1080-1095 series stuff.

I have had customers bring in a few pieces to have sharpened and I was not impressed with the grinds at all!
For display, Maybe? If you can save some more $$ and get something ground evenly and made in the USA.

Could you, would you use the C Bowie you already have?

Its more of a sword lol, 18 inch blade. Only thing i would use it for is if someone broke in.

Its not ground evenly but at the same time its less of a user than their more reasonably sized blades. I was hoping that they would have a decent heat treat on them and i could just have it reground.
