Anyone out there know where I can secure one of these sodbusters(Hippekniep)? I can buy from that website but they require wire transfer for payment. That transaction will cost $50 dollars from my bank, which I'm unwilling to pay since I already have to pay a large fee for international shipping. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Trevor~

I've been searching as well, and only come up with the Mercator, and Sailors Knife...I'm thinking of maybe just getting one of the Sailors Knives...

I've managed to land an Otter-messer, Loewen Messer and Heinrich Schmitz sodbuster but the Windmill soddie is a tough nut to crack. I practically begged a German Ebayer to ship international but they were having none of it..... I shot a message to the website asking if they would take any other method of payment and have'nt heard anything back yet.The search continues.

Wow that's a nice one Trev. Would a modest group buy increase your chances do you think?

If we can get enough guys together to offset some of the shipping and the wire transfer fee then sure. The shipping is about 30 Euro($38 or so in US) plus the $50. I figure the cost to ship the knives to individuals once they land would be about $8 with ins and DC so that will have to be factored in as well but honestly if I could offset the $50 wire transfer fee and the shipping to individuals I would eat the shipping from Germany since I was going to pay it anyway before finding out the wire transfer was going to be so much.

I'm sorry to say but welcome to our (non US residents) world.

I hope it will turn out good for you anyway.

Hi Trev!

Bein honest - I really would like to break a lance for german knives and companies, because they are german made knives.

But hearing this - that´s ignorance and a great shame, imo. I was planing to get a Windmühlenmesser. But after hearing this, I won´t. That´s one thing, I don´t understand in german business - they want to sell things. But don´t offer any PayPal payment or credit card. Wire transfere to the US  While the whole world is connected.

I can really understand you not willing to pay such fees and shipping costs. I wouldn´t want to do that, too.

I can´t understand that... really! Sorry for you, my friend :(

Kind regards
Andi

Thanks Andi, kind of silly if you ask me as well. Otter gladly accepted paypal and I was able to secure a Loewen & Heinrich Schmitz through Shaferladen.de(who accepted credit card) so it doesn't really make any sense to me. I was answered promptly from a representative at Messer wit Tradition when trying to order the knives but when I emailed them again asking for a different payment option other than wire transfer there's been no reply. Kind of a bummer, I believe these are the only current German Sodbusters I don't have yet.

Hi Trev!

I´m some kind of sorry for getting angry, hearing what happened to you. I ordered some knives from the US. Nothing like this was ever question - no higher shipping costs, nothing special about payment.

When I´m talking to guys at work about things like that, there´s one term which always is "costumer-service-desert-Germany". That´s all I can say.
But I´m glad, in some way, that it worked well for you with Otter- and Löwenmesser.
Otter is great, imo. I had an older Löwenmesser for some years. It was a single-blade-clip-blade. I must have lost it during my time in Munich at the subway. Was a very good knife. Great carbonsteel. I think, you´ll be glad with these.

Kind regards
Andi

Too bad it's so hard to get them. I would like to get one, as well as some from Otter and Löwen, too.

I need to find the Henckels locking sodbuster that I used to see my father using in the 60s and 70s.

Good luck on that Henckels, they are hard to find and you have to keep your eye peeled on the fleabay.

Good news, I just found a store in Germany that will ship to the US and accept paypal. He is going to shoot me a total on monday with shipping! If you are interested in getting one of these shoot me a message and I'll see about adding a couple to my order and working out a cost to ship them to you.

I´m glad it worked well for your, Trev!

And

I´m glad that there are still german retails which send to other countries - not only inside the EU.

Kind regards
Andi
