I obtained one of these with my REI dividends its clear and made out of polycarbonate. after I bought it I immediately set out for the local drug store to buy some fuel, Windmill recommends getting the best stuff you can buy which means, triple refined premium fuel. The package states that this lighter is water proof and can handle winds up to 80 miles an hour. I tested the lighter and the flame burns right at 2000 degrees.(I used a thermocouple on my fluke multimeter) I then placed the lighter(closed) into a bucket of water 15 inches deep for 24 hours the next day I took it out and it lit right up no problem. After this I placed the lighter(closed) into my deep freezer at -F for 24 hours, the next day I took it out it took about 3 attempts but it fired right up and no problems after that. Day number three I took the lighter and placed into a cup of water and placed it into the same freezer, 24 hours later I chipped out the lighter using my Sebenza and she fired up after about 3 or 4 tries. Day number 4 I took the lighter on the highway....needless to incriminate myself the lighter worked at speeds well above what was stated on the box.

so with a 30 min burn time,2000 degree flame and the ability to adjust the fuel for high and low altitudes, water proofness I say this is a good buy at 40 dollars and some change. I have been keeping it on a piece of 550 cord around my neck just in case I need it (not a smoker) I plan on buying another one for my survival kit.

Man, that was a pretty thorough test series, good job. I have wondered if those lighters were all that they were advertised to be, as I've experienced the limitations of Bics in nasty/cold weather.

Your fluke thermocouple goes up to 2000F?! Man, I think mine only goes up to 600F. Lucky...

I love how you did the wind test, that's awesome!

the probe kit for the multi came from fisher scientific compeny I forget the part number off hand but U bought it to tube the fuel rate of my M35a2c for max power without melting my turbo.

I am highly impressed with this little guy....
