Nice of the original poster to mention this to everyone, but I'm not a big fan of high dollar lighters mainly because I havent found any of them to work particularly well at higher altitudes or cold temps. So, I just get the cheap Bic lighters for convenience and use a firesteel for emergency fire starting (using cotton balls saturated in petroleum jelly as tinder). In addition, the 'stormproof' lighters usually have attached lids that open in the most inconvenient place - - right in front of you where youre trying to light. - - - I did find a lighter in a retail REI made by Collibri that I like. Its long like those used to start a grill. It has a flame adjusting knob that you can turn with your fingers, unlike the small one you often find on lighters that require a small screwdriver. And, it doesn't have a cover. Theres a place for attaching a lanyard so you can wear it close to your body to keep it warm which helps it work better. Think it went for about $10. Not as cheap as the Bic and not as compact, but more effective. - -
