Windmill lighter filling question

A couple months ago, I bought a Windmill Delta lighter figuring I could use it in a kit. The instructions weren't to clear about how to fill it, so I picked up some butane, stuck the nozzle in, and proceeded to fill it until the liquid level looked full. Held it in all sorts of positions to get it full. The first time I tried lighting it, a large yellow flame came out for 5 seconds or so, then went out and the lighter sputtered a lot and finally quit hissing. Tried to light it again and it wouldn't light. Never lit again as a matter of fact.

I picked up another on clearance and figured I'd try it again, so I'm looking for advice on filling it this time. Should I be holding it at an angle, upside down, or straight up? How full is too full? Any other advice?

ok...butane style refillable lighters are simple......

first..take a small screw driver and depress the fill tip on the lighter and bleed off all the excess gas...this will allow for a good fill of fuel and not just propellant. this could take a few depressions of the filling tip...continue until you hear no gas escaping

turn the lighter upside down turn the plus minus level all the way to minus end and fill for about 6-10 seconds....and you are done

Interesting... I wish they would tell you that in the instructions! Thanks bud!

Edit: Just filled it according to your instructions and it worked like a charm. Thanks again for the not obvious to me instructions!
