Windmill Lighters - Is this normal or dangerous??

I just bought a Windmill Delta Stormproof lighter, NIB. Filled it up. Tried it a couple times. It didn't shut off when I let go of the lever. THen, it "POOF" flames, the butane kept coming, and no flame. Pretty stinkin scary.
Anyone else have a similar experience? I had even turned down the flame height to the min. Still did the same.
Don't want a grenade I can't anticipate...
Any suggestions????

You might want to call ATF and tell them you need to register this as a destructive device and get a class 3 license for it.

Whether it's dangerous or not, I would worry that it would not be ready when you are due to fuel leaking out.

I think windmill has a web site. I would contact them and have them send me a new one. Nothing like a Bic.

Jeff, you know it. I called ATF, said I had to wait 3 days for an answer...

I did send Essential Gear an e-mail, and should hear from them Tuesday.

Just curious if anyone else has had similar experience.

Thanks again.

Gas pressurized lighters are fantastically useful... and potentially dangeous. You're carrying the energy equivalent of a stick of dynamite in your pocket. There have been many serious and some fatal accidents when people inadvertently trapped leaking gas from a lighter inside their clothing (such as coveralls), which then ignited from a spark or open flame. Use 'em... but be careful!
