I'm getting that little red X in my system tray.A bubble window keeps popping up saying "Critical Error-RAM memory usage is critically high-RAM memory failure"

I've heard of this happening to other people.I think I clicked on a down loader. It was an attachment in email from an address I did not recognize.I know,I know,I screwed up bad.Is there any hope?I did a virus scan,no help.

Now,I lost my system tray. It's gone. When I click on my Documents>Programs & mouse over,it says "folder is empty".There is something corrupting my hard drive.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sometimes those are the virus that's popping up, it masks itself as a windows program.

Go to microsoft dot com and get the microsoft security essentials program, its free and works great.

Good luck.

Definitely a Trojan - log in as Admin on your computer, run Malware Bytes, and Spybot to clean it up

Thanks guys.I downloaded the Malware Bytes. So far it found 3 infected objects.I'll do the spybot after this done scanning.I hope this works.

OK,Malware Bytes found & deleted 5 trojans.I restarted my pc.

Now I'm getting the same pop-up balloon window saying "Critical Error-Windows can't find hard disc space.Hard drive error."

I downloaded Spybot S&D,& am doing a scan now. We'll see what happens.I think my HD is permanently damaged.I hope I'm wrong.

new balloon message

"damaged hard drive clusters detected-private data at risk"

I run 4 different spyware/virus softwares and they rarely find the same things as each other. Also run them multiple times.

Good idea to download and run Secunia PSI to ensure programs/software are up to date and patch those that aren't. You'd be surprised how many programs are at end of life and leave your computer vulnerable.

Sounds like Malware that's trying to scare you into buying a certain piece of software. You should have got a pop-up to get the scam software. Here's an article describing what looks like your exact problem. I downloaded the Rkill program and the Iexplore program they recommend and ran both through two separate virus scanners. They're both clean and good to go.

I had a similar problem with a "Security Shield" pop up that kept telling me of some impending doom. I got rid of it with Killbox and digging around in the registry. Anyways, there looks to be detailed info for getting rid of your problem here.

Another thing to consider is that these types of Malware sometimes inhibit down loading and you might have to download from a clean computer and transfer to your infected one with a disc, thumbdrive etc or network.

smegs that's exactly what it was "HDD Plus"^

I think I got it all cleaned up.I downloaded & ran Malware Bytes,Spybot S&D,& Superantispyware.

LMT66,I'm going to check out that Secunia PSI.

Thanks a lot guys!

I am so glad I have a Mac. Sheesh. I've lost two PCs to this crap. Damaged registry. Locked up hard drive. Name it. I've washed my hands of Bill Gates and his awful junk. If this goes bad (which I hope it doesn't) at least CONSIDER a Mac. It's worth the extra bucks.

+1 on this !!!

Sure, Macs can get infected. But the initial security risks are so much lower. For example, admin MUST enter a password before ANY program can be activated to the system. Any update, any 3rd party software, ANYTHING. This almost laughable security measure goes a long way to ensuring your teenage kid doesn't accidentally install some kind of trojan while you are away and unaware of what's going on. I've got my laptop rigged up so admin's password has to be entered JUST TO TURN THE DAM THING ON. No pics can open in my email. No flash. Could I get a virus? Sure. But I've got Iantivirus scanning in the background. Which takes a heckuva lot less RAM than McAfee or Norton. Can't even tell it's running.

So yeah, Macs are at risk. But a dramatically lesser risk. Which to me, is worth the extra thou. Easily worth it, since I won't have to buy a new PC every three years due to irrepairable registrys and locked up hard drives.

Just sayin....

Stick with Bill Gates if you want. I'm sure he appreciates the income. He needs a new aquarium anyhow. His exotic fish are getting bored with the scenery.

Thanks for the clarification.I know nothing about Mac's,that's why I was asking.

Also in the toolbox should be "combo fix" and "hijack this" and Windows 7 is a lot harder to infect than XP. I do IT and a third of what I do is cleaning this crap up. Personally I like the term ransomware but I'd settle for slowly breaking the hand bones of the phucktards writing this crap.
