What exactly is "wine wood" used on some Benchmade knives?

IIRC, it's actually a birchwood laminate called Dymondwood. It comes in many different colors and patterns.

That's some good info as I was wondering myself. I really love the way it looks on the Ares Leupold w/Winewood scales I got.
