I thought you might like to see these Wing Chun Style Butterfly Swords made by Michael Rader with some D Lisch Damascus. they are an order he had he ask if I would like to make a pair of matching blades he handed me a cardboard cutout. If Mike sees this he may tell us more. so if you have any ? please ask them.

Very nice.
I normally hate butterfly swords, but those are sweet.

that's just FREAKIN AWESOME!!!

I wonder if this was that dude from the USN forum who was lookin for a pair awhile back...if so, sure looks like I turned him on to the right guy(s):)

Thanks for posting these Dave. I'll have to get a real membership here one of these days so I can post my own pics. You guys at BF has been very good to me and the information here is truly awesome. I'm in!!!

Thanks for the compliments. These were a real challenge to make and while making one was difficult, trying to make two that matched as perfectly as possible was downright nerve-wracking. Dave's damascus was flawless and it was a pleasure being able to use his damascus in the project. I made my own for the "S" guards, but there is no doubt, that Dave's damascus was perfect for the blades. It really did make the difference and took the whole set up a big notch.

Anyway, I used stabilized Koa and fossilized Walrus ivory in the handles and Curly Maple w/Sapele in the scabbard and display stands. A stainless steel finial was used to hold it all together.

Lorien, I'm not sure if you talked with my customer or not, but if you did - THANK YOU very much! He was a great guy to work with. Please feel free to send more my way :-) Dave and I worked together quite well on this project and even though he is going to be getting ready for his Mastersmith test in 2012, I'm sure I can get some more damascus out of him for future collaboration knives.

Very COOL damascus!

The rest of the two knives look great also. I like the texture on the handle and those sheaths are sweet.

Thanks for showing them Mr. Lisch!

Very cool. Really top notch work by both of you.

Dave, that damascus is wild. It kinda looks like butterflies in the pattern.. perfect.

Stuart I do see some butterflies in the pattern I did not plan that I did plan for the pattern to snake up and down and Mike wanted something Bold I am thrilled with how well they match . I think Mike did a killer job on a project that would make most of us pull our hair out.

Thanks guys. I've been playing a little with texturing and have been doing some full-scale carving on other pieces lately. Quite fun. The butterflys in the pattern were a wonderful coincidence, and I know Dave COULD put butterflys into his damascus intentionally, but he didn't know these were called "butterfly swords" when I talked with him about the damascus. He just knew.... Magic you say? Perhaps Dave is just living in a warped time-portal. You should buy some his knives... actually you already have and just don't know it yet. He told me about it two days after yesterday....

so, so true. It's, like... you can read minds!

Funny stuff.. Though I can imagine many people have bought knives from Dave before they knew about it...:p
They crossed that imaginary line and it was already done. :D

Sublime...I mean the damascus but the story is curious too! Very nice work all the way around.

Best,
Eric
