So I'm trying to choose between these two particular Leatherman models due to the cost effectiveness, and the compliments of tools being greater than the chinese knockoff I've currently got, and they both weigh less and take up less room. But I don't know which one to get. In terms of tool layout the differences are minute: scissors as opposed to a saw, plain edge knife as opposed to as combo edge knife, and package opener as opposed to a small serrated knife.

How does one know which one to get if the work they do could equally make use of each Leatherman?

Well, on Amazon the Wingman is about $8.50 less expensive. Maybe that's the determinative factor. And these MTs are so reasonably priced, if you decide that you made the wrong choice, you can throw in your glove compartment or kitchen junk drawer and get the other one. You're okay either way, so maybe just get whatever floats your boat.

Btw, in all candor I did not dig the Wingman when it was first released, and reviewed it here where I did not recommend it. My view has changed somewhat with the passage of time, as other folks have had good luck with it, and I want to give it another try.

i think the key question you have to ask yourself is what do need/use more, the scissors or the saw?

now you could do as some do and buy both and combine the exact pieces you want, but really; you should be considering a wave if you're thinking this way...it's easier.

i need scissors on the fly, so i opted for a wingman. it's a nice complement to the rebar i also have. if it was possible to get separately i'd trade the little file/ruler for the serrated knife, but i have no intention to buy a sidekick just to do it...

I went Sidekick. I have scissors with me all the time on my Micra, and more often than not with a SAK of some sort. Plus, those on the Wing are so tiny by comparison. I thing the saw is a better trade-off, personally. There is no question that I hate combo blades, so that was easy. And, I open a clamshell just FINE w/whatever blade is with me. The specs say it's only one ounce lighter than my Wave, but it feels like more in -the-hand.
