I'll be going to the airshow next saturday and was wondering what their policy was on carrying knives. Do they have metal detectors? Thanks in advance!

I went to an airshow at DMAFB here in Tucson and carried my auto in. Think they were just looking for bombs. Of course the security inside is better than your average Walmart.

Went to the air show in Frederick Md. and no problem with my edc knives, a sak soldier and a #8 spear point Opinel.

Watch the airshows. I'm an active duty Air Force pilot at Whiteman AFB and I had to run my Benchmade 9100 SBT back to my truck for fear of losing it while approaching the entrance to the base airshow in June. The security is very tight with metal detectors, wands, and dogs. Military bases are not messing around nowadays so if you value the knife don't bring it to the airshow!

This won't be at an AF base I don't think. It's going to be at an airfield. I plan to take my Buck 303T. Hopefully I won't have any problems. Thanks, guys. Would anyone else like to chime in on the subject?

Hi All-

Diamond Cut II, you won't have any problems at an airfield if the knife is legal for carry in that geographic area. Security may request for you to return a knife to your vehicle due to the event, but they may not confiscate it. You would need to be in violation of the law and the confiscation would be done by the police, NOT a rented security guard.

An AFB is a totally different subject. You would be in a boatload of trouble for carrying a knife if the rules clearly say, "No Knives Allowed." Your best bet would be a quick telephone call to the Public Affairs Officer on duty to clarify. He or she may inform you small personal knives under 3.00" are no problem. The contact information for these people is generally very accessible on the web.

Just make absolutely certain you determine what type of facility you'll be visiting...
