Winkler 2 sheath question?

Just got a Winkler 2 belt knife. Micarta handle. Very nice, but the sheath is perplexing.

I added four spacers to the back of the sheath with the supplied leather belt loop so I can sllde it on and off my belt for right or left hip carry.
Problem is when you tighten the screws down it pinches the sheath and you can't get the knife into the sheath without a hammer. If you leave the screws loose you can get the knife in but the screws are so loose they will surely back out quickly while carrying.

I must be missing something here and the supplied directions don't explain anything about this.

Any of you folks out there with Winkler W 2 sheath experience, I'd appreciate your input before having to call the shop.

Many thanks and Happy new Year to you all

The only screws that should go through all the layers should be the bottom two. The top two screws should only go through the plate and the layer of kydex/leather next to it. At least that's how my utility knife had to be set up :)

Thanks jbob24. That makes sense to me. I'll give it a try.

Thanks for the input and happy cuttting this new year.

My field knife sheath functions how you describe. I don't have it in front of me, but I can't imagine being able to get a screw in between the layers. If you use the right spacer it'll grab your belt without being too tight. I did have a screw back out at some point on a 3 mile run though. I put some wax on the threads and haven't had a problem since, including doing the same run more than once since then.

It sounds to me like your sheath was formed without tightening the screws. Send me an email with your shipping address and I'll send you a new sheath and a return label for the one you have now.

I have the same problem with the Hunter model. I am using Chicago screws with a blind hole and a screw long enough to bottom out. A little loose on the belt, but usable. Also, I keep cutting the felt and stitching when inserting the knife.

Mr. Winkler himself! Thank you sir!

Now that's wonderful service! I have composed and sent you an e mail as you request above and look forward to receiving the new sheath. The knife is a complete winner all the way around. Size, design, and construction. I can understand why it's so popular with the military.
