just got a Winkler belt knife with maple handle. I know it doesn’t need it now but if I were to use something to clean and maintain the maple wood, what would be the best to use? Mineral oil maybe?

It appears that the majestic maple makes the appearance of the grains in the wood better to see - the DW maple handle already has great detail in the handle. I guess I am just asking if mineral oil would be a cheap way to sort of condition the wood if it gets dry after use/time.

I mention the majestic maple finish, not the stain. Its a blend of Truoil and pure boiled linseed oil. It protects and maintains curly maple quite well. You could use beeswax or Lustra wax if you want to go that route.

Find RW Wilson's video where he explains the finish. Takes only the slightest bit. Mineral oil may work but I've never used it on wood.. Others here hopefully will chime in on that.

I would use pure tung oil. Make sure it is not the polymerized type that is sold as a "Tung oil Finish"
The Real Milkpaint company has great pure tung oil.

Starbright Teak oil is great too.

I use tung oil on all my wooden handles -- knives, axes. Seems to stand up to moisture better than linseed oil.

Would you think the blade will start to rust if it is kept in its sheath? It’s Lined Kydex with leather cover so the blade does not touch any leather.....

It could if you put it away wet, that's why it's a generally held principle to not store any knives in sheaths. That said, I keep mine in the sheath (all my knives) and they are fine.

Mineral oil will soften and darken wood.
Just use a coat of paste wax or neutral shoe polish.

What kind of paste wax do you suggest? I found some timberland waximum I’ve had for a while - I think it’s mostly for leather. Think it’s worth a try ?

Johnson's paste wax, neutral paste shoe polish. Even car wax.

The Winkler wax sent with your new knife works very well. Only use a little.
