Hi everyone sorry if I posted this is the wrong place

I recently purchased two winkler belt knife straight from winkler when I received them they were incredibly dull so I decided to bring them to a professional sharpening service as I’m new to knives and wouldn’t feel comfortable doing it myself upon getting them back I noticed they were still fairly dull more so in certain places they wouldn’t even cut paracord when I spoke the the sharpening service I was informed that the bevels were very wide so he’d have to follow the factory edge and recommend I didn’t reprofile as it would risk damage and take to much steel off making an ugly bevel

I’m very new to all this and I’m uncertain what to do any help would be appreciated

Before you ever took them to a sharpening service you should have contacted Winkler. I'd send them a note and see what they say. But you do need to learn how to sharpen. Buy some decent stones and a cheap knife to practice on.

I have a Winkler belt knife (in CPM 3V) and while the bevels are wide, the knife is uniformly very sharp throughout. Its not a cheap knife and you should send it back for a sharpening or send the knife back to the distributor for an exchange.

I’m learning but just wouldn’t feel comfortable on such expensive knives just yet

Definitely contact Winkler and they will take care of you...

Standard Winkler's are made of 80Cr2 and that's a pretty easy to sharpen steel. unwisefool unwisefool is right, learning to sharpen is important if you plan on using your knives. There are guided sharpening systems from multiple compaines. I like the WorkSharp series. They have inexpensive guided systems that will teach you how to sharpen. My favorite gift for non-knifenut friends is the WorkSharp Guided Field sharpener. Get yourself an inexpensive knife and a sharpener and learn. You won't regret it!
